Last year there was much excitement about Logitech’s release of Pure-Fi Anywhere as a sort of second iteration of mm50, a portable iPod speaker with an in-built rechargeable battery.Pure-Fi was an improvement on the old design with better looks and a better remote control. However, as was the case with the other speakers available in market at that time, Pure-Fi too lacked support for the interference-generating Apple’s iPhone.

The new Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 for iPod and iPhone counters the problem of the droning buzz in the iPhone with a shield-replacement. Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 greatly resembles its predecessor. You have an iPod/iPhone dock, four speaker drivers, a 10 hour rechargeable battery, a 13.35” wide, 3.7” tall and 1.6” deep black or white plastic enclosure and a clear plastic layer on the front, much like

Apple’s fifth generation iPods and nanos. Pure-Fi Anywhere 2’s audio performance is still the best in its category. It gives you a balanced and outstanding sound. A big sound stage effect is created by the faux-3D spatializers. The system sounds great at even its maximum volume and is apt for a typical bedroom or even to be heard outdoors. At low volumes, it delivers a good mix of midrange, treble and bass sounds, better than any of its competitors.

Its main competitor being JBL’s On Stage IIIP ($170), the Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 outstrips it any day with its better sound quality and lesser price. The treble-heavy On Stage III loses out to the well designed Pure-Fi with its sonic excellence.

Priced at $130 which is $20 less than its predecessor’s introductory price, this should be your first option in case you are looking for an iPhone ready portable speaker system.
